Election November 2016
I didn’t stay up to watch the elections. I took a shower around 7:30, when Hillary was behind, and when I went to bed at 8 she had a slight lead.
Lately I have been thinking about all the other countries who have gone through this, their democracy subverted by our 1%, usually in more overt ways, by assassination or coup. Why are we surprised when it happens to us? And the feral gangs who infest countries like El Salvador or Congo or Syria, do we think we are safe here because the men who swarm the gun shows are mostly white?
I also don’t understand the people who want to try to make “common ground” with the Trump supporters. It reminds me of a woman in an abusive relationship who goes back to her man. Women who try to love the abuse out of their violent husbands frequently end up dead.
If making a target out of everyone who is not a white, Christian, able-bodied, heterosexual, at least two generation (but not Native) American male is not deal breaker for you, then you are not someone I even want near me. If the KKK is not a deal breaker for you, we have no common ground.
Whatever color a person's skin, whatever gender they identify with, if they willingly affiliate with white male supremacism, they are an agent of suffering and death, no matter how much they may love puppies and kittens.
Fortunately, it is likely that affiliation with supremacism is not biological, like melanin or genitalia. It is a choice, perhaps an unexamined habit, or even an addiction, a behavior which a person indulges in despite its obvious harm. One can chose to disaffilate, and do the hard work of rejoining the rest of the human race.
I don't believe that any so-called person of color, or many so-called white people, who have lived to adulthood in this country, are surprised at this election. We have all seen it before. And it will get worse.
Those brave citizens protecting targeted people with their bodies will be shot as they stand before sanctuary churches. Ask a doctor who has performed abortions about the effectiveness of this tactic.
The 2020 election will be worse than 2016, and there may not be a 2024 election at all.
When I was a kid, I used to read comic books. The superhero was always locked in battle with a supervillain who wanted to rule the world. Why, I wondered, would someone want to rule the world? Why not just leave people alone? But now, having learned a little about certain pathologies, I see that my question is irrelevant. Why does a cancer subvert every body function to its own end, even though it kills its host?
Fracking and overfishing and rape and slavery and forcing people to pray to the infinitely arrayed Creator through one sanctioned keyhole?
What do you call this?
