Cup 11: Denial

Sometimes when a person is in the grip of a betrayer their best friend is denial: this isn’t really happening.

In denial, any other explanation makes more sense than the true reality: he isn’t really threatening me, it’s those different-looking people over there who are threatening me.

It isn’t really abuse. Denial says the next worse thing is really abuse.

Denial demands more evidence but more evidence is never enough.

Denial feels like armor but is actually chains.

What would happen if people in pain could be free?

What keeps us bound to our betrayer?
